A lengthy week notes entry, following a brilliant but intense three days in London the week before (summary: Westminster event, business development meeting, campaign launches, co-creation workshop and a strategy day). So, a slow start, but I still managed the following:
Picking up on HBA Support work, adjusting our social media approach, building resources for an online peer support group ahead of launch later this summer and liaising with our research volunteer on a mapping exercise.
End of a three-month project supporting Everyday Plastic on their social media, focussed mainly on The Big Plastic Count campaign as well as some business and partnership development work. I'm now working through evaluation and notes, but it's been a brilliant multichannel campaign to work on. Big shout out to the awesome project team made up of Dan, Julia and Alison at Everyday Plastic, the Greenpeace UK team plus Kibbo Kift, Enviral and the seriously talented freelancers Isabelle Povey, Florence Stuart-Leach and Em Buchanan. Thoughts and reflections on my role, added value and learnings to follow early next week.
People, Planet, Pint Bridgnorth. The second one is a really nice mix of people in the local area. It really makes a difference to be able to build local connections and meet like-minded business owners and community organisers. It was great to hear updates on the Our Green Shop refill and reuse shop (making my first visit this weekend!) and other news in the community.
Sustainability as a Sales Tool workshop from Hannah at Better Not Stop. This was a brilliant learning session. I came away with lots of resources to examine and investigate, including a deeper dive into the UN Sustainability goals and frameworks. This will allow me to continue to advise my clients on how to use these to measure social impact and tell their stories while helping their businesses grow and develop. One takeaway has given me pause on launching a new service - a one-to-one advisory service for founders and leaders. I'll now be offering charitable donations as part of a referral program for the launch, so keep an eye out. I am also now looking at how I could embed an opt-out donation as a percentage of every invoice for clients. Feels like a quick win to embed a commitment to a cause. I'm also looking to build a new web page mapping out my sustainability journey and commitment with some outside support so more news to follow. Let me know what you think about adding an optional donation on invoices or how you've embedded charitable giving into your business. I'd love to share deeper thinking, insights and processes for this. Get in touch at david@david-salmon.co.uk
